It is the time of year to enjoy ice skating. Temporary artificial ice rinks are opening throughout the country and are often for a period of one month. This year, most ice rinks will open their doors from December 9 until January 8 daily between 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Keep in mind that different opening hours may apply during holidays.

Skating on figure skates is mandatory, as is wearing gloves.
Don’t have your own figure skates? No problem! Skate rental at the rink is often already included in the entrance fee.

Below a few examples of temporary artificial ice rinks:

  • Leiden – a floating Ice Rink on the Nieuwe Rijn canal (in the historic center)
  • Amsterdam – Museumplein
  • Beverwijk – Stationsplein
  • Zeist – Markt 1, the Event square in the city center
  • Kaatsheuvel – Anton Pieckplein

You can also look at the Dutch website IJSTIJD! This is an initiative of the KNSB and partners to introduce children to ice skating. Several temporary ice rinks and artificial ice rinks participate. https://www.schaatsen.nl/kids/

Hope you have lots of skating fun!
