Today, fall school break starts for Region North and ends 23rd of October. One week later, Region Central and South will follow, and the school vacations are from 22nd until 30th of October.
In the Netherlands, autumn vacation lasts one week, and the dates of the short school vacations are advisory dates from which the schools may deviate.
Until the 1960s, school-age children of farming families could combine autumn vacation with agricultural leave, so they could get time off to help at home during harvesting. Nowadays, autumn vacation is no longer linked to that harvest period.
